Mistakes That Make Men Look Low Status

The idea behind today’s article, describing people as low status, is a bit too snobbish for my liking.

But everyone should understand that we are judged on our appearance.

People make assumptions based off the way we look.

Here’s where the idea for today’s post came from.

I live in a 60-story residential high rise which means I ride the elevator up and down to my apartment several times a day.

A lot of the time, there will be delivery guys, Uber Eats, DoorDash etc. in the elevator.

After a few months of living here, I’ve noticed that I can almost always tell who is a delivery driver, and who is a resident, just from their appearance.

Now, before you criticize me on this, let me tell you, I respect any working man who is doing what he can to make a living.

And I’ve had my fair share of crappy, ‘low status’ jobs - from packing sheet metal in a factory to working a hot dog stand.

But for now, I want to help you avoid mistakes with your appearance that are going to cause others to judge you as low status.

I’m going to share an example at the end of this video of a guy who, in my opinion, although he was doing DoorDash, actually looked very high status, and I’ll explain why.

But for now, let’s begin with mistake number one that is making you look low status.

I - Gawping at your phone

It may surprise you that many of the mistakes on my list have nothing to do with clothing.

The first, seriously low-status behavior, is staring into your phone mindlessly.

Especially, when you are hunched over the phone like this and you are scrolling endlessly.

The reason it looks low status is because it shows that you are a slave to this device.

You’re sucked in, you’re absorbed, you’re engrossed.

If you are playing TikToks or video games, it makes you look unintelligent. That’s for kids.

Now, if you need to use your phone, that doesn’t immediately make you low status.

But, check your posture. Bring the phone to your face rather than slouching your head down to the phone.

And gentleman, don’t get stuck in a habit of scrolling. It’s pretty embarrassing for an adult.

II - Wearing logos

It’s amazing the amount of people I see who are clearly not making a lot of money but they cover themselves with designer logos.

I don’t know if their clothes are real or fake, but what it says about them is the same either way.

Wearing logos or associating yourself with a brand is a sign of insecurity.

It looks low status because a genuinely high status man does not feel the need to buy his validation at a store.

I’ve noticed that most people who wear a lot logos have either only recently come into money, and they want to show it off.

Or they come from a different culture, like the middle east, or Asia, and they wear European and American designer logos as a way of assimilating into that culture.

Logos scream for attention, which makes you look like you’re overcompensating, and the bigger and brighter they are, the worse.

Even if you have $500 to spend on a T-Shirt, just buy the best quality T-Shirt you can that fits your body properly.

Chances are, it’s not going to be the one with Versace written across the chest.

III - Tattoos and piercings

Now before you accuse me of being judgemental, I want you to remember that I used to play in a heavy metal band, my dad has tattoos, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with them per se.

However, the idea that a young man would pay money to get a tattoo or piercing is honestly quite absurd, because it’s a negative investment.

You are paying to get something that relegates your status, diminishes your professional opportunities, and puts you in a category of outsiders.

Now, can you have tattoos and be high status and successful? Of course, there are many examples of that.

However, does it make things harder for you? I think it does.

If you are a young man struggling to make a buck, and I know it’s hard right now, please do not waste your money on tattoos and piercings.

If, in years to come, you have the extra money and you decide you still want to modify your body, then go for it.

But this has got to be an extremely low priority if you are interested in leveling up your life.

IV - Poor Personal Hygiene

I can not tell you how many guys I see with greasy long hair, pimples everywhere, body odor, and bad teeth.

And when the British guy is calling out your bad teeth, you know you’ve got a problem.

But seriously, poor personal hygiene sends out the same message as being overweight - it shows a lack of self-respect.

It’s very low status if you don’t even take the time to be hygienic. To shower, to wash your face, to comb your hair, to apply some kind of products

A lot of guys walk around like they’ve just rolled out of bed.

But if you want to look professional, feel confident, and be taken seriously, you need to implement a personal hygiene routine, and it needs to be a non-negotiable, just as brushing your teeth twice a day is.

Well, I hope brushing your teeth is non negotiable.

Something that is a non-negotiable in my personal care routine is skincare with Tiege Hanley

Fix your skin, use Tiege Hanley

Implementing a high quality skincare routine will make a massive difference to your appearance, making you look more high status, and therefore making you feel more confident.

I recommend you begin with Tiege Hanley’s Level 1 skincare, which I use myself.

V - Insecure body language

Body language is a huge indicator of status because it broadcasts how you feel inside to the rest of the world.

Making yourself smaller, avoiding eye contact, and fidgeting are all signs of poor confidence which in turn, makes you look low status.

There’s a red-pill idea in the manosphere right now that you can’t fake confidence, you just have to become that man and then you’ll be confident.

But you can work on your confidence as a separate skill and you always should.

Personally, I was confident even when I was selling hot dogs, and it helped me be good at it!

For guys that lack confidence, I’ve got a pretty good fix for you, some of you may remember this from my earlier videos.

If you’re in school or college, get on the debate team. If you’re an adult, join the public speaking organization Toastmasters.

Public speaking and debating is one of the scariest things for most people, so if you can master this, you’re gonna be head and shoulders above other guys in terms of confidence.

The high-status delivery guy

I told you at the beginning of this article that I had an example of a guy who I’ve seen in my building doing DoorDash, but he looks high status.

He’s a young black guy, no older than 25, but he commands respect.

First, he dresses well.

He dresses casually, but looks put together. Clean sneakers, chinos, and a polo shirt.

On top of that, he’s well-presented.

His hair is freshly cut, he has good skin, and he’s in good shape.

The way he speaks to his customers is polite and clear.

He says ‘yes m’aam’ and ‘thank you.’

So even though he’s a 20-something guy doing DoorDash to make ends meet, in my mind, he is high status.

You can tell this guy is going places, and he is worthy of respect.

So remember, wherever you are in life right now, if you put effort into your appearance, body language, and communication skills, you too can appear a high status man.

Conclusion

This one might have been more tough love than I normally dish out, but if you can’t be brutally honest in a blog post, then when can you be?

I would love to flip things around now and ask you to get in the comments, write one thing that makes a man look high status.

It could be something to do with his body language, grooming, or his clothes.

Whatever you think projects a message of confidence, competence, and class.
